This report makes public the performance of Scottish councils against a series of statutory performance indicators across 13 major services. Where appropriate the report also makes comparison with the performance information published for / In addition to those services covered in /94 the report also gives new and previously unpublished information for environmental health.
Councils' performance in providing services is subject to both internal and external audit and scrutiny to encourage good practice and improvement. We have set up a number of independent bodies, such as Audit Scotland, the Accounts Commission, and the Auditor General, to monitor the work of local authorities in certain areas.
